Beaded Beads

Lisa Gastelum makes her exquisite jewelry by weaving tiny beads into larger spheres which have up to 400 individual beads in them. Katy was showing her fused glass work at the Seattle Flower and Garden Show this past weekend and while there she picked up a few new art pieces for the gallery. Here is a picture of one of the items she got, a rooster by Gunter Reimnitz. She also came back with some of his crows and ravens and an owl too.

Donna McCoy Photography

The photography of Donna McCoy is going to be featured at the 9th Street Gallery from Feb 17th through March 31 with an artist reception being held on Feb 21st from 3 to 6. We will have live music with Eddie St Claire and Evans Longshore playing jazz, Bossa Nova, & gypsy swing. We will also be tasting some of the fabulous wines made by Lumos Winery.

I had the opportunity to join Donna yesterday as she went out to photograph tube worms in the lower intertidal zone. What a dynamic day with dark clouds, sunbursts, and great wave action. I can't wait to see some of her pictures, here are a couple of mine. I was not able to get any tube worm shots, just some of the waves and sky and a few anemones in some of the pools in the higher intertidal zone.

Wooden Tiles

Wow, what a summer, time to start getting caught up on the postings.

When Katy was at the Bellevue Arts Festival she met Allen Kinast, an artist working with reclaimed wood. She picked up some of his hand painted wooden tiles for the gallery. In describing his work, Allen says, "In many ways, these wooden tiles function as a somewhat labor-intensive “sketchbook” for me, a place where I can explore new shapes, textures and colors."

Allen teaches a woodworking course at the Oregon College of Arts and Crafts and also designs and builds custom furniture out of reclaimed wood.

Family time

Its been a while since my last post, we have been on vacation! Had a great time and am now ready to start updating the blog. Katy has been to several fairs in the last few weeks and that means lots of new product at the gallery. I will be adding pictures over the next few days to get everyone caught up on what we have. Today I will share a few pictures from our trip to the San Juan Islands in Washington. There were hundreds of dragonflies flitting about and a few that liked to pose, as did this tree frog.

Eye Candy Jewelry

New glass jewelry by silversmith and glass artist Chelsea Stone from Arizona. We first met Chelsea about five years ago when a group of glass artists, showing at the Salem Arts Festival, spontaneously planned a dinner after a long day at the fair. We hit it off, loved her jewelry, and fell out of touch. Well, this past weekend both Katy and Chelsea were showing at the Salem Arts Festival and met up again. We plan on staying in touch this time.

It's a Steele

Amanda Houston will be doing her art demo tomorrow from noon to 3pm. Here is a photo of a couple of her paintings. There were two articles written about Amanda in the Oregonian in the past week, "Creativity helps artist during medical trials" and "Two landscapes enlarge Lake Oswego's collection".

Something fishy

Busy day today, trying to get flowers welded before the Salem show and install the new fountains from Melody. So far the fountains are getting my attention. We got a truck load of rock delivered and went to work. Here is a shot of Melody's fish fountain. It stands about 5 feet tall. It's an amazing piece.

Fountains from Florence

Last week we started representing Melody Ashley from Florence, OR. Today she is bringing in a couple more of her fountains, here is the one we installed last week. I am excited that the back corner of our garden is going to be transformed. I will post pictures when the project is completed.

New work from Josh Cote

We got in a couple of new pieces from Josh Cote today, a toad and a wolf. As you can see they are different from the wire sculptures that we have been carrying. The wolf is about 4 feet tall (from the ground to the tip of its nose) and the frog is about 31 inches long. Both are made out of recycled galvanized steel with aluminum rivets.

On a different note we have a couple of great demos coming to the gallery. On Saturday July 12th Amanda Houston will be here from noon to 3:00 showing some of her painting techniques. On the following Saturday (July 19th) from 9 to noon Julie Fiedler will be here showing off her ceramic skills.
